Natalie O'Driscoll is a freelance writer, musician and cheerful half-hippy from Brisbane who is currently residing on the Gold Coast and refusing to leave until she's eaten at every good restaurant and seen every good live band the region has to offer. Sam is one of that rare breed who went to primary school, high school and university right here on the Gold Coast. She fondly reminisces of the Coast’s halcyon days – come as you are at Fisherman’s Wharf, dollar drinks at the Playroom and free beers at the Rose and Crown for students. In fact she, and some other Gold Coast friends ran one of the first ever bars on campus with Griffith University had just three buildings. Blank GC is Sam's brainchild and she is part owner, a writer and the editor. Sam's other (real) job is in community engagement, organisational development, communication and fundraising and she still consults to a range of conservation groups in those areas. She's been awarded a Young Australian of the Year award in Queensland for her environmental work and in 2013 was named as one of Queensland's Champions of Conservation. In 2014, she received a Golden Gecko from the Gold Coast's peak environment group. Sam, and her friend Chloe Popa who is co-owner and the magazine's designer, decided to launch Blank in response to the growing need for the Gold Coast to find its cultural voice. Their aim is to blow to smithereens those boring stereotypes around the Gold Coast and the cultural scene that exists here. Sam is a single mum to a little boy who is obsessed with jellyfish. In her spare time she loves music, festivals, whiskey, riding her bike, pretending to surf / skate / kitesurf, camping, bushwalking, growing food, reading books, open water swimming, cooking and eating.
