Out of the blocks nice and early for 2016, BIGSOUND today opened applications for artists to play the 15th annual showcase. Which makes us here at Blank GC pretty excited, because it means the countdown is on.
Held in Brisbane from 7 – 9 September, BIGSOUND is without a doubt one of the southern hemisphere’s most significant music industry events, and certainly one of the biggest music festivals.
Thousands of Australian bands will vie for the rare chance to showcase their wares in front of an international audience of music industry representatives. And when you consider that Courtney Barnett, Flume, Rufus, Seth Sentry, Gang of Youths, DMA’s, Kingwood, DZ Deathrays and countless others used the event as a launching pad for the careers, it’s no wonder.
QMusic Executive Officer Joel Edmondson said that 2016 will be a turning point in the event’s history. “The relationships that are formed during BIGSOUND just couldn’t happen anywhere else in the country,” he said.
“Although we’re focused on adding new dimensions to the BIGSOUND experience, it’s also important that we look back on our roots and celebrate just how far we’ve come. The BIGSOUND alumni list is a who’s who of Australian music. That BIGSOUND is a place where a public audience can share in the birth of those careers is something truly unique and special,” Joel said.
BIGSOUND tickets are now on sale with early bird festival and conference tickets from just $350.
Artist applications are open now with artists and managers encouraged to visit www.bigsound.org.au to nominate.
BIGSOUND is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and Arts Queensland. BIGSOUND has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council of the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
