Brisbane’s indie pop artist Hatchie brought her fresh and fun attitude to BIGSOUND. According to several BIGSOUND artists Hatchie was the pick to see, and it wasn’t difficult to see why. Fun, energetic and youthful, Hatchie had the crowd grooving all night long. In a testament to her music’s reach, fans were left waiting outside trying to catch a glimpse of her, as the venue had quickly reached capacity.
Feeling somewhat nostalgic for the pop music of the 80s and 90s, Hatchie’s performance sizzled with the wash of dreamy guitars and her smooth, crooning voice. Incredibly tight playing by the band brought her songs to life. ‘Try’, her only release to date, saw the crowd singing a long to every word. The Top 40 hit had the audience dancing with its shimmery, dreamy melodies and extremely catchy hooks.
BIGSOUND isn’t your usual show, and the audiences are usually very transient. Not many can boast having a lineup out the door, waiting for someone to leave to catch even a minute of their set. But Hatchie, despite being early days, has already captivated fans, bands and the industry in a way that will see her career skyrocket in the months and years to come.
