Bleach showcases best Gold Coast talent

When Bleach rolls into town it doesn’t just bring with it some of the country’s most innovative performing artists, it also showcases some of the city’s.

Running 17 – 28 April across the City, Bleach* Festival has fast become the city’s flagship cultural event, attracting hordes of people to its program – a mix of large all-ages and family-friendly events, and eclectic ticketed options for all budgets and tastes.

But this year, for the first time, they’re also opening a bar on the beach. I mean, it doesn’t get much Gold Coast than that. Right on Burleigh beach for the entirety of the festival (although it is closed for some days over the Easter weekend), Bleach* will host a pop-up bar and dining experience on our favourite stretch of sand.

And of course, it’s not just about tantalising the tastebuds and optic senses. Your ears will get a great workout as well. This year, as well as hosting performances from emerging talent like Eleea, Hannah Rosa and Liv Dennis, they’ve also programmed established and acclaimed artists like Eliza and the Delusionals and Phoebe Sinclair.

Aaaaaand, they’ve been lucky enough to score three Gold Coast Music Awards finalists in the mix as well. Elska (finalist for Breakout Artist and Song), DVNA (Song) and Ella Fence (finalist for Artist and Musician of the Year) all have much-anticipated sets over the festival’s stay at Burleigh Beach.

So here’s the run down of who’s on when:

ELSKA at Bleach at Burleigh, Thursday 18 April, 4.00 – 6.00pm, Beach Stage

Infusing playfulness and wonder into the Australian pop music industry, Gold Coast artist Elska has redefined the humble harp, marrying the delicate instrument with the power of a loop pedal. Her debut single ‘Boy’, and its predecessor ‘Going Down’ were recorded at Brighton Electric Studios UK, with prominent British producer Dan Swift (Passenger, Snow Patrol). In a monumental 18 months, Elska signed a management deal, recorded her EP in the UK, released a short music documentary titled, ‘Heart + Harp’, crafted a unique Library Tour, spoke at an official TEDx talk, and rocked the stages of Caloundra Music Festival, BLEACH*, Australian Music Week, Adelaide Fringe Festival and will soon be headlining the National Folk Festival.

DVNA at Bleach at Burleigh, Saturday 27 April, 4.00 – 5.00pm, Beach Stage

DVNA creates sassy, bold and intriguing tunes that fuse elements of soul and modern day electronica to create a unique blend that’s all her own. Since the 2018 release of her debut single, ‘Girl On The Move’, DVNA has been turning heads all around the country with her smooth and sultry vocals. Racking up 450,000 streams on Spotify, debuting at #23 on the Triple J Unearthed charts, and becoming a finalist for the Triple J Unearthed DMA’s remix competition, this year has been huge for DVNA. With more exciting music in the pipeline, there is no stopping this fierce Gold Coast artist.

Ella Fence at Bleach at Burleigh, Sunday 28 April, 3.00 – 4.00pm, Beach Stage

Award winning singer-songwriter, Ella Fence, is a prolific artist in live music venues, as well as in studio and on stage. Fence has toured and performed in USA, Berlin, France, Norway, England (Great Escape Festival), Canada (Canadian Music Week), and across Australia (national tour, BLEACH* Festival, Commonwealth Games 2018, Australian Music Week). With her unique mix of bold synthesisers, programmed beats and powerhouse vocals, Fence can always be relied on to deliver a passionate, raw performance. Each of Fence’s singles have garnered significant attention online, amassing over 21 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and gaining airplay on community and commercial radio stations internationally.
