Calling all Northern Rivers artists, designers, artistic teams… and bike riders!
Dream up a set of sculptural bike racks for the town of Byron and you could be funded $20k to bring the project to life and see them used in the town.
Byron Bike Rack Project is a community initiative by local independent brewery Stone & Wood, in partnership with the Byron Shire Council. Encouraging the locals of Byron Bay and its visitors to ride, rather than drive, the competition aims to create a set of public art installations that are functional and look good for the town of Byron!
Byron Bike Rack Project is a competition to design sculptural bike racks as public art pieces. Dream up a set of sculptural bike racks for the town of Byron and you could be funded $20k to bring the project to life and see them used in our town.
Entrants are required to submit three to seven designs for installation. These can be site specific or the same, with installation locations to be proposed by the applicant. A map of available locations is provided here.
Designers will be required to submit in two stages. The first stage is an online submission (to be completed below) providing concept designs and general information about the artwork and design, which closes 22 January 2018. If shortlisted, applicants will then be notified and will have 3 weeks to submit stage 2 of the entry which will require applicants to provide more detailed designs, costings, and other public art requirements as a part of the second stage.
The designs will be judged in two rounds, the first round by a committee from Byron Shire Council Public Art Panel and the second round to be announced soon.
The winning artist(s) or designer(s) will need to be available from 4 March – 30 April 2018 to create the sculptures. The final artwork must be delivered to the Byron Shire Council depot in Bayshore Drive, Byron Bay.
