Could there be anything more Gold Coast than chilled live music, in the shadow of Surfers’ skyline, on a spring afternoon? Celebrate GC will bring some of Australia’s best live music to the street when it closes the main drag of Chevron Island for a celebration of all the things that make this city great.
Headlining the shindig is Busby Marou – with adept storytelling, perfect harmonies and laid-back vibes, not to mention the whole ARIA #1 album thing they’ve got going on. They’re joined by Caravana Sun who have included Celebrate GC as part of a massive national tour to celebrate new EP ‘Silver Linings’. They’re fresh from playing to thousands on their 22-date Europe / UK tour, so you know they’re going to bring the goods.
Local guitarslinger Katie Who is also on the bill, alongside Tully John and Liza-Jane, Old Man Friday, looping harpist ELSKA, Karuah and Izzy Day.
It’s not just the music that’ll bring Gold Coasters to the streets, Celebrate GC also promises skateboarding lessons for children at all ages and levels and a silent disco for kids, as well as a pop-up of one of HOTA’s popular ArtLabs, which will give folks the chance to customise their own funglasses. Stay shady Gold Coast. Plus there’s a makers’ market, roller derby demos with the East Coast Derby Dolls and a village of handmade, sustainably-sourced cubby houses with all the bells and whistles.
Celebrate GC takes place along Thomas Drive, Chevron Island on Sunday 7 October.
