Dirty hands for cleaner dunes this Sunday

Burleigh to Surfers Landcare Group was formed by a group of people living between the two iconic beaches, who share a passion for coastal living, dune protection and action.

This weekend, they’re joining Australia’s largest clean up to tidy the dune system and beach at North Burleigh.

Melanie Brennan, President of the Group said that Clean Up Australia Day was a massive event for the Gold Coast.

“There are more than 70 sites registered for Clean Up Australia Day across the coast,” she said. “From the hinterland, up to Coomera and down to the border.”

“We’re just everyday Gold Coasters,” Melanie said. “But we care very much about the state of our beaches and we really want to do something about keeping our beaches in the best shape we can.”

The clean up is scheduled for this Sunday 2 March on the beach in front of Miami Tavern, end of Kelly Avenue, Miami.

Gloves and bags will be provided and nutritious refreshments will be available afterwards.
