DZ Deathrays Deliver A Bloody Lovely Total Meltdown

White hot good-time thrashers DZ Deathrays are about to ramp things up over the summer months with two exciting announcements.

First up, they’ve just dropped a brand spanking new single, ‘Total Meltdown’, which follows on from their most recent releases ‘Shred For Summer’ and ‘Bad Influence’. Check it out here.

With ‘Total Meltdown’ the rambunctious two-piece, Shane Parsons on vocals/guitar and Simon Ridley on drums, have delivered another high octane head shaker of an anthem that is sure to become another instant live favourite.

In the lead up to its release the boys got creative on the PR front, collaborating with director Guss Mallmann to create an innovative Instagram Story quiz in which viewers were challenged to guess the lyrics of the song.

‘Total Meltdown’ has been floating around in embryonic form since 2016, when it emerged as a riff that wouldn’t die during pre-production for the song ‘Blood On My Leather’. Says Parsons of the genesis of the track; “It took about 6 attempts at a chorus until we came up with what it is now, which is why the lyrics in the chorus have nothing to do with those in the verse. It’s a little disjointed lyrically but it’s become a big anthem of the new record and a favourite of ours!”

The track is a precursor to the release of their upcoming new album, the marvelously titled Aussie euphemism ‘Bloody Lovely’, which is scheduled to see the light of day in early February 2018.

With Parsons in Sydney and Ridley in Brisbane, the record was pieced together across various US, European and Australian tours, with the boys going into the studio at the start of the year to lay down tracks at The Grove Studios, with Burke Reid once again on production duties.

In the words of Parsons; “it’s brutal and beautiful, and super Aussie”.

It will be album number three for the band, following on from their ARIA Award winning winning release ‘Black Rat’.
