Visual artists on the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers have a new friend. Gold Coast artist Antonia Robinson has organised her second art event this year to be held at District 21 cafe in Nobby Beach this Saturday 6 December . Titled Expression: From the Body to the Brush the theme of the event is abstract art and passion for the human form. Her first art event, held at the same venue in April when it was called The Cave, was Liquid, a beach inspired exhibition that featured Antonia’s work among others.
Featured art and artists at Expression will include abstract nudes by BecBubbles Magee, realist Rock’n’Roll portraits by tattoo artist Emma Eriksson, and surrealist art by Kris Klein. Graphic artist Andrew Mainwaring will be performing wood burning on guitars (pictured) on the night, and other artists will be drawing and painting, making this a live art event. There is an overall feminine energy amongst the work in ‘Expressions’ that Antonia says she didn’t deliberately seek out. She says the artists came to her.
The live music on the night by Timmy Rickard and Katie Who, has been chosen to match the abstract mood of the art. Katie is an indie rock / roots musician whose powerful voice matches her acoustic stomp-box style. Timmy is a pop / roots guitarist whose influences include Johnny Cash and Jack Johnson.
While Antonia won’t be exhibiting or painting in her latest event, she is passionate about supporting the local art community. She has a sympathetic boss at her day job at District 21, and intends holding more themed art events at the Nobby’s cafe next year depending on demand. So come down to District 21 at Nobby’s 7pm this Saturday to support this free event. All art will be for sale.
