Alabama powerhouse Kristy Lee made her first trip down under in late 2014.
With the help of friend Michael Franti, Kristy had a meeting organised with Bluesfest director Peter Noble, so brought a guitar along to sell herself the old fashion way.
Two songs later she was booked to play multiple dates at the 2015 Byron Bay Bluesfest.
Joining her on the Delta stage were local legends the Hussy Hicks: Julz Parker and Leesa Gentz. They effectively became her backing band, or as she likes to call them, her “tricks”.
Together they had a packed audience in awe as she belted out her captivating heartbreakers, with songs including She’s Not My Blood and Run from her debut album Raise the Dead.
Spreading her southern soul around the festival, Kristy also joined old pals G Love and Donavon Frankenreiter on stage. While fans lined up in the rain for CD signings, I’m sure I’m not the only one hoping she’ll be back in Oz very soon!
