Gold Coast launches its very own GC Laughs Festival

The inaugural GC Laughs Festival will make its debut at HOTA Home of The Arts on the Gold Coast from 17 – 24 March 2019 and is set to deliver a gutful of belly laughs.

Get ready to giggle, Gold Coast. Some of the world’s most-loved comedians will join Australia’s comedy legends and up-and-coming stars for a week of non-stop comedy with the GC Laughs Festival set to make HOTA its home for the next three years.

GC Laughs is the hilarious brainchild of Festival Co-Directors Josh Armstrong and Craig Ivanoff who realised it was no laughing matter that the Gold Coast didn’t already have their own comedy hub.

“Most cities around the country stage a comedy festival, it’s a rite of passage for many a famous name to ‘tread the circuit’ and audiences love discovering new talent, before they are famous,” said Josh.

“It was well and truly time for the Gold Coast to have one of its own. We are thrilled to be partnering with HOTA to bring the Gold Coast something familiar yet fresh in what will be the Coast’s very first comedy festival.”

The calibre of acts locked in to perform over the seven days affirms that the Gold Coast is a pivotal market for these performers and the appetite for comedy is high.

“We are hoping that the diverse range of acts that we’ve pulled together for our first year will put us on the map as a major player on the comedy circuit and that the festival becomes a cornerstone event on the Gold Coast’s cultural calendar and grows along with the City itself.”

Laugh yourself silly at Cheeky Scots Daniel Sloss and Fern Brady who will join the hilarious American Arj Barker, South Africa’s brilliant Dusty Rich and UK superstars Ross Noble (pictured) and Stephen K Amos.

Australian comedy legends slated to perform include Helen Bidou, Fiona O’Loughlin, Joel Creasey, Becky Lucas, Rhys Nicholson and star of TV’s Orange is The New Brown, Nazeem Hussain.

“Our Festival kicks off with a Gala Night of comedy on Sunday 17 March hosted by the hilarious Sammy J. The Gala showcases some of the festival’s funniest international stars, homegrown legends and next-big-things in comedy and guests joining us on the night can be guaranteed a huge night of laughs,” Josh said.

The full festival program is now available online and tickets can be purchased from gclaughs.com.au or from HOTA.
