GC Show is music to our ears

Local song writers and musicians are being invited to help pen a theme song for the Gold Coast Show.

Gold Coast Show Manager Lavinia Rampino says local song writers and music performers will play an integral part in the success of this year’s first ever event at the Gold Coast Turf Club Showgrounds.

“We’ve never had one before,” she said. “And we’re after a 1 – 2 minute composition that encapsulates what the Show is about.”

The competition gives winners a chance to perform at the show and to have the song professionally developed. With other prizes also up for grabs.

“It should be about the Show experience and what it means to the Gold Coast and the people who have been a part of it over the past 108 years,” Lavinia said. “It’s a broad brief, but one that gives the entrants full interpretative and artistic licence.”

Participants should consider exploring the Gold Coast Show website to further their understanding of the Show experience and entries will be reviewed from 12 June with finalists announced around 1 July.

“The competition is the ultimate blank canvas for local musos and, as part of the prize package, they’ll get to perform it before thousands of people during this year’s Show,” Lavinia said.

The 2014 Gold Coast Show will be held from 29-31 August and further details on the Show as well as the songwriting competition are at www.goldcoastshow.com.au/theme-song-competition/.
