In what’s set to be a musical showdown of epic proportions, Buskers By The Creek festival names 10 of Australia’s finest troubadours as finalists in the 2017 ‘Battle Of The Buskers’ competition, which takes place at Currumbin Creek Tavern Friday 13 October.
Preceding the actual Buskers By The Creek event on 14 + 15 October, Battle of the Buskers sees Australia’s top emerging talent play-off for the coveted Buskers crown and a slew of prizes worth over $10,000, including a paid spot on the Airlie Beach Festival lineup, automatic entry to Bluesfest Busking comp, recording, publicity and advertising packages.
Competition will be fierce this year with Melbourne Youtube sensation Joel James, SXSW showcase sweethearts The Heart Collectors and Gold Coast’s own ethereal harpist ELSKA among the finalists announced today.
“Selecting finalists this year was seriously tough. So much talent on the lineup caused ‘lively’ discussion amongst committee members!” said Festival Director, Cindy Jensen.
“Ultimately we are stoked with the 10 finalists. All are worthy and will indeed make for one hell of an entertaining battle on the 13th, so you should all definitely come cheer them on!”
“We’ve decided to offer the final, 11th spot to the ‘Fan Finalist,’ which will see the artist with the most fan votes on our event page battle it out for the Buskers crown.”
Judges include representatives from Airlie Beach Festival of Music, Rabbit Radio, LoveStreet Studios and Blank GC with a special surprise guest on the panel as well.
“The talent being discovered at Buskers by the Creek is phenomenal and we’re stoked to be onboard as a talent sponsor to provide further festival performance opportunities for artists,” said Airlie Beach Festival director, Gavin Butlin.
Fans can have their say with the 11th ‘Fan Finalist’ slot up for grabs. All artist’s on the Buskers lineup are eligible for the ‘Fan Finalist’ position, and are encouraged to rally their fans to vote for them via the Facebook event page when voting opens today.
