The Commonwealth Games are finally here and the place is a buzzing hive of activity. What happens if you’re not into sport though? Well, with city pride at an all-time high, this weekend you can get amongst the jam-packed art, culture, entertainment and natural goodness the Gold Coast has to offer. We hear you and have done the groundwork to get you started in planning your epic weekend. Here’s just a taste of what’s on:
Bleach* Festival presents The Ninth Wave, an apocalyptic Narrative entwined with original score composed and perfumed live in Surfers Paradise on Friday and Saturday at 7pm. Wave Fields will have you sleeping on the beach inside a blanket of sound at North Burleigh on Friday and Saturday from 5.30pm and Archie Roach will be performing at Mudgeeraba Hall on Saturday at 6.30pm.
Bleach and Festival 2018 together present an evocative performance of Intimate Space where not all is as it seems at The Hilton Hotel on Friday and Saturday at various times throughout the afternoon and Bleach Electrified is where you will see art and musical performance collide at Surfers Paradise on Saturday at 7pm. If kicking back to a killer line up of local live music and nibbling on food truck treats is your thing then The CBD Street Party from 1230pm daily in Chinatown mall Southport and Palmy Sunday Funday – Bleach* Festival from 1 to 4pm at Palm Beach Parklands is right up your alley.

Get ready to witness the electrifying explosion of RITE and the high-powered choreography of SURGE at the Roundabout Stage in Broadbeach on Saturday and Sunday over various times. Interpretive dance and flashmob with the Silent Disco in Broadbeach on Friday and Saturday or immerse yourself in the sound experience of Sea Stories at Broadbeach Beach on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning at 5.30am. Bathe in the moonlight of the spectacular Museum of the Moon in Chinatown Mall Southport from 10am-10pm from Friday to Sunday or head down to Surfers Paradise beach with the kids from 1pm to experience the Interactive installations of IMPULSE and Giant Sing Along from Friday to Sunday.
Festival 2018 and Bleach* Festival present the next acts at the Queensland Music Stage Broadbeach nightly at 7pm.
Get ready for a raucous time with fun festival favourites Wilson Pickers, Jackie Marshall and Karl S Williams on Friday. Soak up the lush harmonies and acoustic tunes of Busby Marou, Leanne Tennant and Alexander William on Saturday and get ready to dance to head spinning melodies and irresistible grooves with Sahara Beck, Tia Gostelow and Greta Stanley on Sunday.

Discover the delicious flavours of the Gold Coast in this big, bustling market of delectable dishes and tasty treats where you can be inspired by food workshops and demonstrations while enjoying music, dance and theatre. There is a wicked line up of music, circus and science with Bullhorn and Hot Potato Band on Friday and Saturday 6pm, Deja Voodoo on Saturday at 6pm and Good Vibrations on Sunday at 5pm. You can go on a Sunshine Food Adventure or try Kupmarri Bush Tucker Friday to Sunday or explore brewing and distilling with The Brewer The Distiller and The Scientist on Sunday from 3-4pm.

Brunch or High Tea at QT Hotel
Nowhere does brunch or High Tea quite like QT hotel Surfers Paradise and you can be assured you will be treated to things never before seen on the regular menu.
If a live crepe station, roving canapés, gourmet breakfast bowls, fried chicken and waffles with bottomless Mimosas sound like your thing then The Bazaar Brunch is where you need to be on Sunday between 1-3. For the guys there is the Man Tea from 12-4 Friday to Sunday with things like smoked brisket sliders, mini loaded fries and Morton Bay Bug rolls and definitely no ‘tea’ involved. If HighTea sounds more like your thing QTea combines all of your High Tea favourites with a sprinkle of QT quirk at QTea High Tea daily from 10am to 4pm.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Markets
Located on The Village Green at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary from 4-9pm on Friday, the popular Sanctuary Markets have a strong focus on local and international foods as well as a variety of arts & crafts. Street food flavours include Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai, Brazilian, South African, Indian, Italian, Turkish and Greek to represent the multi culturalism of the Gold Coast.

19 Karen in Mermaid Beach currently has exhibitions by Gola Hundun and The Directors Choice. One Arts on Isle of Capri has ‘The Green behind the Gold’ exhibition featuring Claire Beck, Dave Groom and Wendi Trulson and Left Bank Gallery Southport has the Art Lovers Prize Opening party on Saturday at 5.30pm.
Detour Street Art Festival at Robina Town
Celebrating our local art and community Detour Street Art Festival will be serving up an epic two-week visual arts spectacle showcasing the movers and shakers of the Gold Coast’s street art scene alongside some internationally renowned guests. Some of the Coast’s most talented street artists will be let loose around Robina Town Centre to transform every day shopping spaces into extraordinary installations. There is also live entertainment at The Promenade from 10am – 8pm daily and The Mini Art Lab for kids outside Hype DC from 10am – 3pm.

On Saturday The California Kings hit The Hinterland and Angelo Pash The Cambus Wallace and Shark Bar Sundays is at Miami Shark Bar with HOON, Stone Witches, Cakes, Cloacas and Nudist Blog on the bill.
Get your nature and wildlife fix
The Gold Coast is a walkers paradise with so much on offer from beach to bush.
Try the easy stroll where ancient volcanic columns meet the sea on the Burleigh Heads National Park walk at Burleigh Heads or the trails of the Federation Walk stretching from Phillip Park near Seaworld to The Spit. Take a picnic rug and chill in one of our beautiful parks Gold Coast Botanical Gardens or Cascade Gardens or head out to Currumbin Rock Pools for a dip in a fresh flowing creek. David Fleay Wildlife Park and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary are the places to be for a day of wildlife experiences and Mount Tamborine is where you could check out some glow worm caves at Glow Worm Caves Tamborine Mountain.
