You saw their names up in lights when they were named finalists for the Gold Coast Music Awards and this month you can see a heap of them live. Not that that’s unique. Every month on the Gold Coast there’s a heap of local, live, original music to get your teeth stuck into. July and August are no different.
City Over Sand at NightQuarter
Friday 14 July
These guys are the quiet achievers of Gold Coast’s music scene. With some band members working for numerous other projects (Amy Shark and Mason Rack included) and managing hectic touring schedules, they still managed to produce a beautiful album in ‘Good Grief’ which was named a finalist for Album of the Year at this year’s Gold Coast Music Awards. They’ll hit NightQuarter with Bella Maree in support on Friday 14 July.
Plus all these gals and guys …
Sunday 16 July
It’s like there’s a massive party happening on Sunday 16 July – only at opposite ends of the Gold Coast at the same time. Gold Coast Music Awards finalists have gigs between Southport and Currumbin. Felicity Lawless gets the day started from 9.00am at Iron & Resin at Currumbin, you can catch Jacob Lee from 12.30pm at Cabana Bar & Lounge at Southport Sharks, CC The Cat hits Currumbin RSL’s Deck Acoustics from 4.00pm. Hussy Hicks wrap the day up with a twilight set on Burleigh Hill.
Chelsea Rockwells at Miami Tavern
Friday 21 July
Named finalists for three categories, Chelsea Rockwells seemingly appeared out of nowhere over the past 12 months. And when you listen to their debut EP ‘Eleven Vol 1’, you begin to understand why. They’re not the kind of band to be playing the Gold Coast every weekend, so this show is a special treat – particularly because they’ve just been announced to support The Screaming Jets. Again. For their July show, they’re supporting Mass Sky Raid and These Four Walls are also on the bill.
Electrik Lemonade at Live At Bond
Saturday 22 July
They put the “party” into after-party for this year’s Gold Coast Music Awards delivering a killer set at Surfers Paradise Beergarden and this month they’re taking the same funkin’ vibes to Bond University for Live at Bond. Settle into the ADCO Amphitheatre for an afternoon of funky tunes, right int he middle of Bond University’s stunning grounds.
Amy Shark at Miami Marketta
Thursday 24 August
She took out both Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘Adore’ at this year’s Gold Coast Music Awards and now Amy Shark, fresh from her USA tour and launching a brand new video for ‘Drive you Mad’ is embarking on her second national tour for 2017. Lucky for us, Gold Coast gets a look-in. She’ll hit Miami Marketta on Thursday 24 August. Tickets are moving fast, so get a move on.
