When Gold Coast Music Awards organisers roll out the red carpet this May, to celebrate the winners of eight music-related categories, they also serve up something for people who couldn’t care less who takes home the trophy…. delicious and free live music, right on the beach for all-ages.
Running alongside the ticketed gala awards event is a completely free mini-festival, which opens the Surfers Paradise LIVE event. And the lineup features three Gold Coast Music Awards finalists who showcase some of the best live talent from this great city.
Golden Guitar Finalist, Casey Barnes, is making a monumental impression on the Australian country music scene. Kicking off as a DIY dream pop project, San Mei has come a long way since her first EP, ‘Necessary’, which initially gained her attention from national tastemakers Triple J, NME and NYLON. Momentum built with the formation of her band and through the collaboration with acclaimed producer Oscar Dawson on her second EP ‘Heaven’. Both of San Mei’s latest singles ‘Wonder’ and ’Heaven’ garnered rave reviews and were put into Triple J rotation. Recently, San Mei has gone from strength to strength, playing at Falls Festival, BIGSOUND and SXSW 2019 in the USA.
And finally, after forming in High School, four-piece Peach Fur has captivated music lovers with their psychedelic tunes that serves up a range of different flavours of rock, with a fusion of psych surf pop vibes. After an intense build up that gained the attention of the industry at a national level, Peach Fur hit the road in 2018 for their biggest east-coast tour to date to celebrate their seven-track release ‘Doreen Drive’ – a finalist for Album of the Year. Reaching over 1.3 million streams on Spotify and more than 30k monthly listeners on their last EP ‘Pleasures and Necessities’, Peach Fur have continued to rise.
