On Saturday 27 October 2018, Gold Coast Open House returns for its fourth year, opening the doors of interesting and architecturally significant buildings and locations, and inviting the public to take a behind the scenes look at places they may have only glimpsed from the street.
This year, Gold Coast Open House will present around 40 sites from The Seaway to Bilinga, from heritage buildings to schools and university spaces, churches, stunning private residences, and television and radio studios, alongside some of the Gold Coast’s most architecturally inspiring landmark buildings and workplaces.
The Gold Coast Open House team has announced a new ambassador, Tim Ross – comedian, radio host, architecture enthusiast and television presenter of ABC series ‘Streets of Your Town’, which examined the changing aesthetics of Australia’s suburban housing.
Tim’s passion for all things architecture and design led to the creation of his unique stand-up show called ‘Man About The House’, set in significant architecturally designed houses or buildings around Australia. With sell-out seasons across Australia, London, Palm Springs and New Zealand, the show continues to tour globally.
His interest in architecture has seen him speak at the opening of the new London Design Museum, write on architecture for The Guardian and The Saturday Paper and he was recently awarded a National Trust Heritage Award for Advocacy for his activism on modernist architecture and promoting its conservation.
Tim says his interest in architecture was sparked at a young age.
“I was a kid of the suburbs and I was intrigued by the interesting houses around me and that were being built.”
“The best Architecture is open to all of us and it should be for all of us. The Open House program is about getting out and taking a sticky beak and letting design wash over you, move you and inspire you.
“I encourage everyone young, old and in between to get involved. To look up, to look across and back in time and to the future. To let it move you.”
The Gold Coast Open House full program of buildings and spaces will be announced on goldcoastopenhouse.com.au on Friday 14 September. Pre-registrations will open online on Friday 21 September.
