The Gold Coast Show has announced a new waterfront home.
This year’s show, which runs 31 August – 2 September will take place at Broadwater Parklands, becoming the only agricultural show in Australia to be held beside the water.
And there’s more.
For the first time in the Gold Coast Show’s 112 year history, the event will be completely free to attend.
Broadwater Parklands will come alive from the Southport Aquatic Centre through to the Sundale Bridge with everything you’d expect at a show. Side-show alley, woodchopping, baby animals, arts, camel rides on the beach, live music, show food, roving entertainment and fireworks and of course, Showbag Pavillion.
The Show’s footprint will also extend beyond Broadwater Parklands with a satellite location at Owen Park and the Southport Pony Club. There you’ll find a full equestrian program, cattle and highly popular dog show.
And organisers are marrying the traditional with the contemporary revealing this week that Southport CBD will also be transformed into a nightly feast for the senses with LuminoCITY set to deliver “spectacular installations”.
Rides, Dagwood dogs, fairy floss, feats of strength and skill, animals, family-fun and fireworks. What’s not to love?
Organisers recently called for applications from musicians and entertainers to audition at NightQuarter to perform on main stages at the Show. Art and craft entries close 10 August, indoor exhibitor space has sold out and applications for outdoor exhibitor space close soon.
Casey Barnes has already been announced as headliner for Friday night festivities, backing up his epic Groundwater Country Music Festival performances from 6.00pm. He’s making a monumental impression on the Australian country music scene, so it’s fitting that he’s kicking things off for the Gold Coast show in serious country style.
All things point to a massive year for Gold Coast Show at its new home.
See you at Sideshow Alley.
