The Listen Out Festival is now in its third year. It will be delivering super juicy beats and vibes to Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane this September and October.
Although Listen Out is famous for being a predominantly dance music festival, the hip-hop acts that will be hitting the stage this time round are absolutely massive!
The biggest name on the bill is Childish Gambino AKA Donald Glover (not Danny Glover, who would indeed be ‘too old for this shit’). Gambino is still doing shows and travelling the world with ‘blacked out’ social media accounts. On the one year anniversary of his most recent album Because the internet, Gambino removed all pictures and posts from his Instagram and Twitter and replaced everything with black squares. No one really knows why, because…the internet…right? But never fear, Gambino is famous for his energetic live performances and super creepy, crazy eyes. So Gambino fans should expect a full stage presence come September.
Rae Sremmurd, a hip-hop duo who have blitzed the charts recently with their hit singles No Type and Throw Sum Mo (Ft Nicki Minaj, Young Thug), are another huge US act that is coming down for Listen Out.
iLOVEMAKONNEN, a psychedelic alternative rap wizard from Atlanta, Georgia, will also be headlining. Makonnen’s single Tuesday earned him a collaboration with hip-hop legend Drake, as well as a record deal with Drake’s label OVO Sound.
Of course it’s not all about the hip-hop though, Listen Out is keeping to its roots as a dance music festival by coming through with some huge dance music artists in this year’s line-up as well.
Alison Wonderland will be gracing us mere mortals with her presence as she continues to ride a huge hype wave that started after the release of her first original album Run earlier this year, which got her number #6 on the iTunes charts as well as the Triple J feature album. Having come straight from an insane performance at Coachella and a sold out warehouse tour, Alison should be set to go off.
Some of the other headlining acts that are worth a mention right now include Client Liason, Golden Features, Odeasza, SBTRKT and Ryan Hemsworth. Of course there are many, many more artists to be announced in the coming months including the winners of the Triple J Unearthed competition.
The first ticket release has sold out for every city but second and third releases are still up now! Head over to listenout.com and have a look at the full list of acts (so far) and make sure you grab yourself a ticket before it’s too late!
