More than 70 nominations have been received for the Gold Coast Music Awards, with still three weeks remaining before nominations close.
Samantha Morris, founder of Blank and organiser of this year’s awards said the response had been overwhelming.
“Oh my god,” she said. “We have no idea how we’re going to handle all the paperwork. Actually, we’re lucky we have such a wonderful judging panel, because the real hard work is theirs.”
A third of those nominations are for Song of the Year. That category is sponsored by City of Gold Coast. Entries for Emerging Artist of the Year, sponsored by the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University and Band / Artist of the Year, sponsored by Southport Sharks are also healthy.
“To date we’ve had just a handful of nominations for the other three categories,” Samantha said. “Live Music Event, Live Music Venue and Music Champion of the Year are three categories we’d really like to concentrate on over coming weeks. We know that all three are a busy space on the local music scene, so we’re encouraging people to compile their own nominations and throw their hat in the ring.”
Nominations for the first music awards on the Gold Coast for 20 years are open until Sunday 31 May and the awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 22 July at Burleigh Brewing Co.
