Northern NSW/Brisbane three-piece band Moreton is a tribute to Bribie Island, a place where lead singer Georgia Potter grew up as a child. Having completed a Bachelor of Popular Music on the Gold Coast where she went to uni seven days a week and “slept under desks and used up all my studio quota”, Potter then moved to Brisbane where she made a name for herself as a solo artist before heading back to her nature roots and settling in New Brighton. Moreton is a fairly new project for Potter, in fact they only launched 5 weeks ago but all are experienced members of the music scene.
Their first EP “Specimen” will be released in October and I was lucky enough to preview a couple of tracks live at the daytime showcase at BIGSOUND music conference, currently being held in Brisbane. Potter has a certain presence on stage and we joked about her “claw” hands stemming from nerves before performing but this is not evident at all. For a band that has only been together for a short period of time the synergy between them was evident, drummer Myka and bassist Lee adding deceptively deep tones behind Potter’s stirring vocals. Moreton’s set was incredibly moving and far too short for my liking and I highly encourage anyone who is Brisvegas right now for BIGSOUND to put Moreton on their schedule.
