Our Picks for the Flicks in June

Don’t you hate it when you see an awesome trailer, decide “ooh I’m definitely seeing that!” and then totally forget about it?  Well never fear, we’ve got your back.  See below for a reference list of fun films opening in June that just might just pique your interest.

 

1 June (one night only at The Arts Centre Cinema)

Putuparri and the Rainmaker
This documentary is part of National Reconciliation Week and examines the journey of the Aboriginal rainmakers of Australia’s Great Sandy Desert who have fought a twenty-year battle to win back their traditional homeland.

2 June

Queen of the Desert
Master director Werner Herzog brings together an odd cast of Nicole Kidman, James Franco, Robert Pattinson, and Damian Lewis to explore the story of Gertrude Bell, an adventurous Englishwoman who explored the complexities of Middle Eastern politics and culture during the early 20th century.

The Meddler
Smother-mother, Susan Sarandon, over-protective meddling in the life of daughter, Rose Byrne, leads to a life-changing confrontation which leads her to find new purpose in life.

God Willing
Sub-titled Italian comedy about the conflict between an atheist father and his son’s decision to embrace the priesthood.

Money Monster
Julia Roberts, George Clooney, and Dominic Hyde star in a Jodie Foster directed movie about, once again, the evils of Wall Street.

Now You See Me: The Second Act
The second installment in the Four Horseman con-game starring Daniel Radcliffe (directed by Jon Chu.)

9 June

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
Freed from the confines of the television cartoon, the TMNT hit the big screen to save the earth from hideous monsters.

16 June

Finding Dory

An exploration of the life and music of Miles Davis. This might not reach the GC, but if you’re into jazz then probably worth tracking it down.
