Salvos bring Op Shop Week to Harbour Town

National Op Shop Week will see Salvos and other second hand stores join forces for Op Until you Drop – which will run 23 – 30 August.

Salvos is supporting the event with the launch of the Style Army – encouraging consumers to shop second hand and reinvent fashion while helping the Salvos continue their great work in the community. The Salvos will also be bringing the store to you with the Salvos Street Boutique.

The Style Army will be coming to Harbour Town Shopping Centre, with their Street Boutique popping up on Monday 31 August from 9.30am to 5.30pm, showcasing vintage and current recycled fashion trends, perfect for fashion savvy, budget conscious hipsters.  Faye De Lanty, TV fashion commentator, eco/op shop fashion blogger and brand ambassador for the Salvos Stores, will be on hand for styling tips and advice throughout the day.

Salvos Stores General Manager Neville Barrett said Salvos Stores have been helping struggling people for over 125 years, and have raised millions of dollars to support The Salvation Army.

“Pre-loved and recycled furniture, clothing and goods are donated to the stores and then sold at reasonable and fair prices,” he said. “All profits from these sales go towards running vital Salvation Army programs which assist the less fortunate.”

As well as sold goods, items are also distributed free of charge to those in need through The Salvation Army’s network of Community Service Centres.

“By taking part in National Op Shop Week and The Style Army campaign, as well as shopping and donating at your community Salvos Store, you are supporting the mission and programs of The Salvation Army. Salvos Stores use all their proceeds to fund vital work in the community on a weekly basis,” Barrett said.

Salvos Stores fund community work across a range of areas including aged care, drug and alcohol abuse counselling, crisis and support accommodation, youth support and more.

By shopping and donating at your community op shop, including Salvos Stores you are supporting the mission and programs of many worthy not for profit organisations, providing vital services to those most in need.
