During the past nine seasons, Sea Shepherd’s direct-action interventions have saved the lives of more than 4,500 whales and exposed illegal whaling to the world.
This month, the group launches Operation Relentless: its 10th Antarctic whale defence campaign, managed and led by Sea Shepherd Australia. The campaign will defend at-risk whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.
To support Operation Relentless, a benefit gig of epic proportions is happening this Friday night at Soundlounge Currumbin. Dallas Frasca, The Lyrical and Transvaal Diamond Syndicate will perform with all money raised on the night going straight to Sea Shepherd Australia for its new campaign.
Guns n Roses guitarist Slash has been spinning Dallas Frasca’s album Sound Painter in his tour van across the USA and even took the time to let the band know. It was released in Australia in 2012 and has taken the band across the globe supporting acts as diverse as The Tea Party, Ben Harper, Patti Smith, Van Halen, Sinead O’Connor and Wind & Fire.
The Lyrical (AKA Karl Smith) won Byron Bay Bluesfest’s People’s Choice Award in 2010 and 2011. He’s performed at Big Day Out, Island Vibe, Bluesfest, Red Deer Festival and Caloundra Music Festival. Punters expect big things from this lad in coming years.
And Transvaal Diamond Syndicate play a high-energy, entertaing set with groove riffs and wailing slide guitar.
Friday night offers a killer option for Gold Coasters wanting good tunes and an opportunity to give back to an important protector of the oceans.
