Local stories go Viral
Based on a number of true events, new theatre production Viral takes a deeper look into the role of social media and technology and how it impacts the way we record, communicate and think about events of racism, abuse, violence and harassment in the community. The play fuses physical theatre, verbatim text, multiple role-sharing, multimedia and political theatre into an intense, visceral, provocative and entertaining piece. There are six shows from 1 September to 10 September at the Arts Centre Gold Coast. Call Box office on 5588 4000 or visit the website.
Il Ritorno by Circa
The stage is awash with bodies tumbling, lifting and clutching. Then, out of the darkness and gnawed by nostalgia, the Greek hero Ulysses appears after twenty long years of war and wanderings. Will he reach his faithful wife Penelope before she succumbs to her suitors? Il Ritorno is a ground-breaking new work fusing Circa’s world-renowned stripped-back acrobatics with baroque opera. Over 80 taut minutes, it retells Claudio Monteverdi’s classic opera Il Ritorno D’Ulisse in Patria, intermingling it with folk song and new compositions. Shows Wed 31 August, Thurs 1 & Fri 2 September 7:30pm NORPA at Lismore City Hall. Tickets: 1300 066 772 or www.norpa.org.au.
