Spiegeltent to host champagne cabaret at the Gold Coast for Bleach*

After sold-out seasons at the Sydney Opera House, Brisbane Festival and London’s West End and an epic run of shows at the Adelaide Fringe, Blanc de Blanc’s next stop is the Gold Coast.

To be held in the majestic Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent, the show will run from 30 March – 16 April as part of Bleach* Festival right in the middle of Broadbeach.

The Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent is one of the biggest Spiegeltents every built.

“She has travelled all over the world,” said Scott Maidment, the show’s Director.

“She was made in Belgium. But Spiegeltent is a Dutch word translated to ‘tent of mirrors’,” Scott said.

Blanc de Blanc has made a big name for itself with titillating acts that infatuate, illuminate and delight – so there’s no surprise about it’s inclusion in the Bleach* program. It brings the finest cabaret and acrobatic talent from around the world into a wild, shimmering night – with big moves, great tunes, lots of skin, and more than a few surprises.

From the creative minds behind LIMBO and Madonna’s recent Rebel Heart Tour, this brand new production will have audiences immersed in a world of overflowing champagne bottles, sparkles and glimmer leaving every spectator bubbling with excitement.

Scott said the unique setting of the Spiegeltent adds a magic and intimacy to the shows which is hard to replicate in usual black-box theatres.

“The show happens around, above and alongside the audience, with cast members selected from some of the most prestigious circus houses around the world. We also work with world-renowned composers, choreographers, musicians and theatre creatives to make each show a quality, high-energy spectacle,” he said.

There are only a hand-full of these unique and legendary Spiegeltents left in the world today. Built of wood, mirrors, canvas, leaded glass and detailed in velvet and brocade, seeing a show inside one of these tents is a truly majestic experience.

This is the first time a Spiegeltent has come to the Gold Coast.

“Spiegeltents travel to all major cities around the world,” Scott said. “Shows like LIMBO and BLANC de BLANC have travelled to London, Prague, Edinburgh, Sydney, Auckland, Brussels and Denmark – and now we’re coming to the Gold Coast!”

“It’s always special for us to do a show with in Australia. Our cast of international artists are so excited to spend a season on the Gold Coast and experience all that it has to offer.”

BLANC de BLANC is directed by Scott Maidment (LIMBO, Fear & Delight, Cantina, Madonna’s recent Rebel Heart tour) and choreographed by Kevin Maher (who has choreographed for the likes of Justin Bieber, Britney Spears and Madonna), with costumes by James Browne (All Saints, Australian Idol).

Scott describes the show as champagne cabaret.

“I wanted to create a new circus show… that transports the audience into a heady, bubble-filled, overflowing, crazy party,” Scott said.

“Every act in the show is inspired by champagne, with giant bubbles, foam, a human champagne fountain.”

“We’ve worked on the Gold Coast before and love the attitude of its people, the sun, the sand and the ‘vibe’,” Scott told Blank Gold Coast.

“After a sold-out season at Brisbane Festival, we wanted to make sure that Gold Coast got in on the action too! We also received an unprecedented number of emails and messages from Gold Coast residents asking when the show was coming to to visit, so we aim to please!”

Bleach* Artistic Director Louise Bezzina says Blanc de Blanc will be an integral part of the festival.

“It is highly physical, lots of fun and I know that Gold Coast audiences are going to absolutely love it,” Louise said.

The full Bleach* program is due for release 2 February.
