Psych rock may be a classic genre, but what California’s The Growlers do with psychedelia is anything but classic. And in exciting news for fans of psych (which let’s face it, is pretty much the whole Gold Coast), the band have announced their first Australian tour since their visit in 2015. And Gold Coast gets a guernsey with a show at Miami Marketta.
The Growlers have grown from a party band to a fully-fledged traveling psych-cirucs. They’ve influenced Burger and Lolipop Records and spawned their own festival AND genre – Beach Goth. They dish up a uniquely Californian vision of blond hair and swagger culture and there’s this devotion amongst Growler fans that’s hard to describe, but not surprising. On their latest album ‘City Club’, released late in 2016, The Growlers collaborated with The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas as well as Shawn Everett who’s worked with bands like Weezer and Alabama Shakes.
Yep, it’s certified psych-rock royalty that’ll be making a beeline for Miami Marketta this November. They’ll also perform in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Sydney and Melbourne.
Watch ‘I’ll be Around’ off the album ‘City Club’ now and read on for tour dates.
