Long live The Tiv

There’s no other venue quite like Brisbane’s The Tivoli. With a deep musical heritage and an incredible back catalogue of artists such as Bob Dylan, PJ Harvey, Dinosaur Jr, Lily Allen, Slash, , Marilyn Manson, Nick Cave, Paul Kelly, The Go-Betweens, Ozomatli, Peaches, The Polyphonic Spree, Henry Rollins, Billy Bragg, They Might Be Giants, Pavement, The Eels, Tina Arena, Sunnyboys, You Am I, Hoodoo Gurus and The Church having graced its stage, the stunning theatre space is sought after by gig goers and the bands they love.

Many a Gold Coast music fan has memories of the post-gig come-down driving the M1 at midnight after a world-class Tivoli experience. Whether it’s metal, hip-hop or punk, or any of the crazy genres in between, the venue is a favourite for people across southeast Queensland and for good reason. While it has serious historical music credentials, it also continues to deliver a diverse mix of local and international touring acts.

Case in point is the fact that over the next few months you can catch Archie Roach (with Tiddas no less), Brian Jonestown Massacre, Belle & Sebastian and Portugal. The Man, Vera Blue, Ocean Alley, The Jungle Giants and Machine Gun Kelly – amongst a slew of others.

Peking Duk (pictured) have already sold out one Tivoli show so are backing up for another. Their ‘Wasted’ tour coincides with the releas of their single of the same name. With 2.8 million Spotify streams and more than a million ARIA units sold, ‘Wasted’ joins a solid collection of releases from the pair and the timing couldn’t be more perfect for a live show. With a 2017 ARIA Song of the Year nomination and 3 x certified platinum hit in ‘Stranger’, these guys are in their prime. You can catch their second show on Friday 4 May.

And June sees Jet celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of their album ‘Get Born’. So now I’m feeling especially old. If you need a reminder of why these guys were one of Australia’s most successful rock bands of all time, then this Get Re-Born tour will help. With global sales in excess of 6.5million albums and ‘Get Born’ being certified 10x platinum, Jet are the real deal. They hit The Tivoli on Monday 4 June.
