Voting for People’s Choice Awards now open
The People’s Choice component of the Gold Coast Music Awards, proudly presented by this year’s awards night host, Burleigh Brewing Co., opens for public voting today.
It comes on the back of finalists for the industry categories being announced last week.
In opening public voting this morning, Burleigh Brewing Co. CEO Peta Fielding drew comparison between her passion and ours.
She said music, like beer, is subject to taste.
“In many ways, music is like our beer. We know what it’s like to pour your heart and soul into creating something you want others to enjoy,” Fielding said. “The exciting part is seeing what people respond to.”
“In the creative process, all we can really aim to do is make it good. And as a result, World Class product, whether music or beer, can often be found in our own back yard,” she said.
One of the organisers, Samantha Morris, said the People’s Choice Award gives every day Gold Coasters the chance to have their say about their favourite local band.
“Seventy artists nominated for three of the six categories for this year’s Awards,” Sam said. “And they ticked nearly every genre box possible.”
“We had nominations from bands covering punk to pop, roots to reggae, indie to instrumental. It’s been a great process to capture the diversity of music coming out of our city,” Sam said.
Peta also acknowledged the diversity and quality of talent.
“The People’s Choice Award is an opportunity for music lovers to celebrate what they like – but also to celebrate simply that we have a choice. There are a lot of people doing really good stuff on and around the Gold Coast. There’s a lot to like.”
