The Youth Music Collective is calling for expressions of interest for local youth to sign up for their new project, a free mentoring program that teaches life values with music as the vehicle.
For the first time the Youth Music Venture will join forces with Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD) and City of Gold Coast to create a project that blends music, dance and song writing over a
10 week program for youth aged 12 – 17 at the Helensvale Cultural Centre.
Workshops led by MMAD on the topics of Hip Hop Dance, Songwriting, Vocals and Accessing the Industry, including Self-Marketing online, will be held from 15 – 17 January, 2018.
Auditions for the bands will be held on Saturday 6 January, followed by weekly Sunday rehearsals and mentoring by industry professionals in the lead up to the showcase concert on Sunday 25
Youth Music Venture Founder and Coordinator, Ian Grace, said he was thrilled to see the program return even bigger and better as it enters its ninth year.
“Since its inception in 2010, the volunteer run Youth Music Venture has seen more than 200 young people come through over eight consecutive years,” said Mr Grace.
“It’s fantastic to unite with Musicians Making a Difference this year, an Australian charity that reaches around 50,000 young people Australia wide, using the power of music, dance and mentoring
to inspire young people in overcoming challenges such as homelessness, family breakdown, drug and alcohol addiction and unemployment to name just a few,” he said.
“Our aim is to provide creative support, break negative cycles and empower our youth to make their own difference within the community.”
The Youth Music Collective is calling for all musicians with a basic musical understanding to participate in the bands. No experience is necessary for the workshops.
