Art Music Fund – $100,000 for new commissioned work

Art music composers have the chance to share in $100,000 AUD in funding to create new commissioned work through the APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund, which has been running three years.

The funding pool is available for the creation of commissioned work that displays professional compositional craft, represents a benchmark of excellence in its field and is innovative. The Art Music Fund exists to commission new works that have committed partners to ensure the work is presented multiple times with the intention to create a long artistic life for the work and by extension, its composer.

With works of this nature often taking multiple years to complete, commissions from the fund’s three years in existence are only just coming to fruition. These include: Lisa Illean‘s piece Cantor for voice and ensemble that was recently performed at Carriageworks, James Hullick‘s electro-acoustic CityTopias that will premiere at Melbourne Music Week, Eve Klein‘s operatic Vocal Wombthat will have its world premiere at MOFO at MONA 2018, and more.

The Art Music Fund is assessed by an external panel of musicians. With an aim to represent a complete view of the industry, we are particularly aware of ensuring that the panel of experts includes diverse voices across culture, gender, culture, geography, generation and genre.
This fund supports a wide range of music styles including: notated composition; electroacoustic music; improvised music (including innovative, original jazz); sound art; installation sound; multimedia, web and film sound and music; and theatrical, operatic and choreographed music.
