Australia’s first bird art prize launches

Australia’s first bird art prize launched this month with a call for bird artists from across Australia to vie for this two-dimensional art award worth $10,000. Entries close 1 May.

Any realistic birdlife scene will be accepted as an entry and Patron of the prize Dr Gary Holmes, an avid collector of bird paintings, says he anticipates a high calibre of entries.

“Australia has some of the world’s most acclaimed bird artists and it has long been my dream to see them come together in a prize such as this,” Dr Holmes said.

“It takes a talented eye to really capture the essence of these beautiful animals,” he said.

The winning artwork will be announced on 12 August and then acquired into Dr Holmes’ private collection.

Cost of entry is $40 and the closing date is 1 May. For more information visit Friends of the Gallery Caloundra website or phone 07 5492 1482.

The Exhibition will be held at the Events Centre Caloundra from 12 August – 20 September 2015.
