Donavon Frankenreiter headlines the music program for Byron Bay Surf Festival, which hits the southern suburb of the Gold Coast (just kidding everyone from Byron) 24 – 26 October.
The program is pretty epic as well – with music, art and exhibition all focused on surf and surf culture.
As well as Frankenreiter, organisers recently announced a one-off jam session by A Collective of Life Minded Musicians which will raise funds for Take 3, Seabird Rescue Centre and the Burra Jurra Indigenous Surf Program. The Collective includes Ash Grunwald, Shannon Sol Carol and OJ Newcomb (Band of Frequencies), Dave Rastovich, Scotty Owen (The Living End), Terepai Richmond (The Whitlams) and Vinnie LaDuce (Mt. Warning).
It’s a colourful mix of surf culture icons and musical talent coming together for a free family-friendly, open-air venue.
To add to the offerings, the festival is also hosting a heap of workshops: handplane shaping, board bag making and wooden fin shaping. There’s the art photography show, the start-me-up youth art show and sustainable craft workshops, markets, surfing and demo events.
And almost everything is free and outdoors.
