City of Gold Coast and the Griffith Centre for Coastal Management are calling on residents, students and schools to lend a caring hand as part of the June BeachCare program.
Volunteers will plant native dune plants, removing weeds and pieck up beach litter at three different locations across the city next month. The City invests $110,000 into the BeachCare program each year and so far this financial year more than 600 volunteers have contributed 2000 hours.
That’s resulted in the planting of 1700 native dune plants and the removal of more than 6 tonnes of weeds. Dates for June are as follows:
Saturday 13 June, 9.00am – 11.00am at Runaway Bay (Shearwater Esplanade)
Saturday 20 June, 9.00am – 11.00am at Currumbin (Duringan Street)
Saturday 27 June, 9.00am – 11.00am at North Burleigh (beach end of Kelly Avenue)
