Chris Cornell, he who spearheaded the grunge movement of the 90s, who fronted not one but two highly revered bands with legions of followers each (Audioslave, Soundgarden) has some very good news for Aussies this morning: he’s headed down under.
The multi-Grammy award winning artist, whose voice is arguably one of the few that has truly defined the evolution of rock over the past few decades, is setting out on an intimate acoustic solo tour that will see him pulling from the expansive archives of his career, including his solo work (most notably, from his upcoming fifth studio album to be released in September, name TBA) and songs from his time with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden and Audioslave.
And don’t think that an acoustic Chris Cornell tour is going to be anything less than knock-your-socks-off incredible, either. His 2013 Songbook run of sold-out acoustic shows across the US, named for his 2011 live album, garnered widespread critical acclaim. “Sometimes you don’t recognize the full power of a voice until you strip everything away from it”, The New York Daily News’ Jim Farber practically gushed. You’re in for quite a treat here.
