Snowdonia, on the dramatic North Wales coast is a far cry from Brisbane – both geographically and culturally, yet gritty roots musician Daryl James is just at home in both places. Hailing from Snowdonia, before hitting the road with a ruck sack and guitar, Daryl currently calls Queensland home.
And just as his horizons have expanded, so too has his musical leanings. Previously incorporating acoustic, folk and gypsy ska over his last few EPs, his current sound leans toward hip-hop beats using the body of his guitar and a more hybrid gritty electric crossed with acoustic roots.
He’s about to hit Airlie Beach Music Festival and in 2018 heads towards his original shores for a UK and European tour and today he’s released ‘The Wolf is at The Door’ from upcoming debut album ‘Insofar’.

Daryl says the song is about breaking away from a “normal life”.
“I felt at my wits end with how wealth is measured in purely materialistic and monetary ways, and the pack mentality judgement of those who do choose to challenge ‘normal life’,” he said.
“Finally breaking away from this mindset I found that having less has made me feel more free, happier and more open to real human connection, which I believe is true wealth. I think more and more people are waking up and becoming aware of the wolves at their own doors, and realising that they can become the authors of their own fate.”
You can hear Daryl perform his new single, as well as old faves live when he hits the road to launch ‘The Wolf is at The Door’.
