From the hearts and mouths of a cross-generation of Indigenous Australians, first nations concert ‘Deadly Hearts’ – a flagship event of HOTA’s upcoming summer festival HOME – will feature some of Australia’s best present and emerging artists.
Australian music stars Jessica Mauboy and Archie Roach will be taking listeners on a sonic journey through the foundations of their musical inspiration, supported by exciting up and comers Aodhan, Selve, and HVWKS, plus more to be announced.
A four-time ARIA accredited Platinum seller, Jessica Mauboy is a one of our hottest national exports. Not only has she sold over 3.4 million units globally, achieved five top ten albums, 15 top twenty singles, and had over 158 million streams, Jessica has also toured with Beyonce and collaborated with the likes of Ricky Martin, and Pitbull, and made history being the first non-European solo artist to represent Australia at Eurovision.
No one has lived as many lives as Archie Roach – from stolen child, teenage alcoholic, seeker, lover, father, musical and lyrical genius, to social advocate and First Nations leader – but it took almost a lifetime to find who he really was. Roach voices the joy, pain and hope he found on his path through song to become the legendary singer-songwriter and storyteller that he is today.
15 year old Dharawal singer/songwriter Aodhan was honoured to win JJJ’s Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative with his coastal folk flavoured ‘When Your Eyes Speak’. Aodhan fuses heartfelt writing with soulful musicality.
Selve are a psychedelic art rock band based out of the Gold Coast and Brisbane. The band is formed of Indigenous lead singer/songwriter Loki Liddle and lead musical composer Harry Edwards (Elder Children). Together they create narrative driven alternative music inspired by the likes of Foals, Nick Cave and Tame Impala.
Making waves in the Australian electronic bass music scene, Brisbane-based Indigenous artist HVWKS is truly paving his own way through this ecosystem with a unique sound ranging from melodic future bass to heavy hitting trap beats.
Deadly Hearts will expand hearts and minds on Saturday 14 December from 3.30pm at the HOTA Outdoor Stage. Tickets start from $32 and are available at hota.com.au.
