The 2014 Gold Coast Airport Marathon – the 36th annual event – will be one of the most significant in the event’s history.
The event was recently awarded the International Association of Athletics Federation Road Race Gold Label and more than 30,000 runners are expected to enter.
The weekend of events take place Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July and includes the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge and Junior Dash 4km and 2km races.
In addition to running a course rated alongside some of the world’s most illustrious races such as the New York City Marathon and Tokyo Marathon, participants will witness some of Australia’s best marathoners in action with the Australian Marathon Championships hosted on Sunday. The current men’s course record holder Yuki Kawauchi from Japan is set to return to the Gold Coast for this year’s event.
Entries to both the Gold Coast Airport Marathon and the ASICS Half Marathon are capped at 6,500 and 11,000 respectively. Entries opened this week and according to those involved, interest has already been strong.
