GC band set to beef up Mudgeerabarby for massive skatefest

They’re from Burleigh. They combine surf and skater rock and they’ve got old-school punk attitude. And if that’s not #verygc, I’m not sure what is.

Five-piece, Tokyo Beef have been doing the hard yards on the Gold Coast music scene since 2008. We asked Graeme (rhythm guitar + vocals) a couple of questions before they take to the stage at Mudgeerabarby this weekend. They’re not the only band playing at that event either. You can read about their stage-mates, Psychoibis and Underwood Mayne while you’re here.

Tell us about the best gig you have played?

We have played heaps of good gigs over the years. Several at the Shark Bar, And we have played the two Kirra Surfstock Festivals and Wallapoloza Festival. Made the final of the A.B.C. Exhumed Competition at the Gold Coast Arts Centre. But without a doubt The Burleigh Boardriders Single Fin Festival is the stand-out. Playing in front of a packed Burleigh Headland was pretty special. Really looking forward to playing at Mudeerabarby. Its gonna be up there too!!

What’s the one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring musician?

Practice, Practice, Practice. Then when you’re finished practicing, practice some more. Make sure you keep the whole music thing FUN. If it isn’t fun don’t do it. Chase your dream. Oh yeah and be the singer not the drummer.

If you could take five musicians/artists on a road trip around Australia who would you choose?

Miss Bella Paton, James Nikko, Ryan Murr, Ryan Granthan, Stav Giouzelis Pearl Jam Tool Pendulm Motley Crue ACDC.

The most underrated musician right now?

I heard Underwood Mayne and Psychoibis go alright. Heaps of good bands and muso’s on the Gold Coast in all genres. Azreal, Boned, Payments in Gold, Former Angels Cheap Fakes Bella Paton and Benny D Williams. I heard The Lizard Kings are making comeback. Yeah Benny D. Didn’t he used to sing for us ? Or was that when he was JUST Benny? HA HA

If you could give one piece of advice to a large group of people what would it be?

Peace Man. Live long and Prosper. Confine yourself to the present and Rock On.
