It’s been 20 years since there’s been a Gold Coast Music Awards program, but as you’d probably know by now, a team of passionate local music lovers is bringing it back.
The Gold Coast Music Awards – a project of Amanda Gorman, Chloe Popa and Samantha Morris will stimulate national interest in the Gold Coast as a live music destination, while rewarding the depth of talent found here.
The team today advised that categories and nomination processes are nearly finalised.
“We’ve been working with an industry advisory panel to get some agreement around what the categories should be for the first year,” Chloe Popa said. “It’s been a fantastic process to bring such experienced music people together to collaborate on the awards.”
With the ceremony date already locked in for Wednesday 22 July and the support of Burleigh Brewing Co underwriting that event, the Awards team say they are working hard to finalise nomination documents and get the website ready for what will “hopefully be a lot of online traffic.”
The timeline for opening nominations has been pushed back though.
“We originally aimed to get nomination information out during the first week of April, but we kind of forgot about Bluesfest,” Chloe said. “So, we’re now working towards a mid-April deadline to let everyone know what the categories will be, how they can nominate and how they will be judged.
Chloe also said that ABC Gold Coast would be supporting the Awards.
“They have very generously come on board as a media partner,” Chloe said. “But even more significant to us is that Trevor Jackson who heads up ABC locally, has agreed to chair our Independent Judging Panel.”
Chloe was able to confirm the number of categories though.
“There will be six categories and we’re currently negotiating with organisations who might like to sponsor them prior to announcement,” she said. “There will also be a prize awarded by popular vote.”
“But you’ll have to wait until our formal announcement to know more,” Chloe said.
