Five past Gold Coast Music Awards winners, are joining forces with some of the city’s best emerging talent to bring you more than eight hours of live streamed sets this weekend.
The brainchild of Elska, last year’s People’s Choice Award winner, the #goldcoastsoundslike streamathon will see lounge room sets performed by the likes of San Mei, Saint Lane, Ella Fence, Tesla Coils, Eleea, Ivori, Rhea Robertson, Harry J Hart, Jake Moreton and Purple Zain among others. In total there are 25 Gold Coast acts participating.
Taking place Saturday 11 April from midday, the Instagram LIVE, streamathon aims to boost the profile of local artists while connecting them with new fans.
Elska, who’ll be book-ending the streamed festival with a set at midday and a wrap-up at 8.40pm says she’s been inspired by the non-traditional festival concept others have been rolling out across the country.
“I was instantly motivated to pull together a similar idea showcasing our incredible local talent. I’m a big believer in artists supporting artists so once I had the idea stuck in my head, it was impossible for me not to make it happen,” she said.
And if you haven’t heard of some of the artists performing, you’re not alone. Elska herself had never heard of half of them. She said that really goes to show how much incredible music is being made in this city that we don’t even know about.
“We have fresh upcoming talent like Eleea, Matt Gray, and Danny Dyson who were constantly performing every weekend across the GC; who get to perform alongside some more established Gold Coast Music Award winners like San Mei, Saint Lane, Ella Fence and Tesla Coils.”
“And for some artists, this will be their very first live stream, which is just so exciting!”
Of course Elska is hoping the entire community gets behind the event.
“Our line-up of music is so diverse there is truly something for everyone in this event – from indie pop, hip-hop, electro-rock, country, soul, lofi vibes, industrial beats, loop pedals, alternative rap, folk, jazzy cinematic sounds, analogue tape machines, electro dance, and of course a harp!”
Personally, I’m excited to just get out of my iso-home-school-mum-clothes, dust off my harp, throw on some glitter and perform again! But I’ve realised there’s something much more important to me about this event. Musicians often rarely get a chance to enjoy the local live music scene themselves or support our friends’ gigs… because 99% of the time, we are all performing at our own shows every single weekend. Now that the venues have closed and the gigs are physically gone, I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to kick back and immerse myself in 24 other local music artists’ live performances, from the comfort of my home.”
Here’s the full lineup with set times. And remember, to tune in, all you have do to is pop over to Instagram and find the artist during their set.
