With Bigsound 2014 well and truly underway, Fortitude Valley is dripping with talented up and coming artists. Our writer, Emily Hosking hung five with one of them, Brisbane songstress Hannah Rosa. On the brink of her sophomore EP release, we asked her a few cheeky questions to unveil a little bit about the lady behind the songs and see why everything seems to be coming up Rosa.
What was the first record you ever bought or were given?
I think the first one I got for Christmas was one of those Barbie Summer Compilation mixes. I was a cool kid (laughs). There was that song Superstar by Jamilia or even S Club 7. They were my jams back in the day.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Woodford Folk Festival – back when it was in Maleny. I don’t remember much, but it was good times. I love Woodford.
Thinking back… Can you remember your first ever experience with music?
Probably my parents singing to me when I was little. In the bath, any anywhere really. I remember my dad would sing while he was washing up. They took me along to Woodford as well as lots of theatre and musicals.
Aside from music, are there any other talents you may obtain?
Well, I play soccer on the weekend. My team got into the semi finals, but I’m missing it to be here at Bigsound. And I’m also learning Japanese at a night class at the moment.
If you could get up on stage with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Definitely Kate-Miller Heidke. She’s pretty much the reason I started writing songs to start with.
