Hanging 5 with Brooklyn ahead of Soaked appearance

This weekend, something a little different lands on the shores of South Stradbroke Island – Couran Cove to be exact. It’s a pool party with a difference.

With a killer lineup featuring Seth Troxler (USA), Minx, Tigerlily, Timmy Trumpet, Brooklyn, Aydos, Keron C, Flash, Brooklyn (pictured) and a bucketload more, the event also boasts high-end sound, light and production.

Seth Troxler was voted number one in the Resident Advisor Top 100 DJ Poll and has championed just about eery major music event there’s been, including Coachella, Burning Man, Glastonbury, Sonar, Tomorrowland and The Detroit Electronic Music Festival.

And of course, you have the rest of the facilities of Couran Cove at your disposal, including a whopping 160 rooms from studio to four bed villas to choose from.

Punters will arrive mostly by flotilla from Marine Mirage where the boat trip is already factored into the ticket price. But it wouldn’t be the Gold Coast if helicopter or seaplane weren’t also options for transport.

To whet your appetite (before you wet your whistle), we hung five with Brooklyn: a DJ, performer and a creative genius with her sights set on becoming Australia’s next big superstar. She has played at every major party spot in the country from her residency at our very own Platinum Nightclub , down to Marquee in Sydney, Billboards in Melbourne and everywhere in between. Her stellar performance has not only taken her to every state in Australia but also across the Pacific Ocean to the biggest venues on the Asian continent in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia to date.

What do you love most about living on the GC? I love how we have the luxury of the city on the beach! The Gold Coast has such a laidback lifestyle unlike the big cities. There is something about the drive home from the airport that makes me appreciate living in such a beautiful place.

Tell us about the best gig you’ve ever played. I’d have to say the gig I did in May in Penang, Malaysia. I was lucky enough to be able to play in front of over 2,000 people at the H-Artisty Globe Art Of Mixing event. It was a super clubbing experience with a massive stage, dancers and amazing light show. I felt very loved and welcomed over there.

What are your thoughts on the GC music scene?I think it’s only growing. We have some amazing DJ/producers coming out of this city like Bombs Away, New World Sound and of course The Stafford Brother who have made it big not only in Australia but also in the United States. It’s a great place to kick start a music career.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give an aspiring musician?
I’d say to them to not get involved or to be consumed with what others are doing or saying and to just focus on their own goals. I’ve noticed a lot of internet trolling going on in the EDM industry and it’s not good to worry about what others think of you too much. I’d also say to them to to put yourself out there, set up a facebook page, soundcloud, Instagram and start promoting yourself. You never know who could be watching or listening.

What brought you to this career?
I have always wanted to be in the music and entertainment industry in one way or another. From writing song lyrics as a teen to making music video clips with my sisters using our parent’s video camera and I even use to pretend to host my own radio shows and record them on my cassette player. So I guess since a young age I have always had an interest in music and entertainment. I got my big break into the industry when I entered the 2013 Your Shot competition which is a nationwide search for newcomer DJ’s looking to make it in the industry. I was lucky enough to make it as one of Queensland’s 20 wildcard entrants out of hundreds of applicants. I got to perform at Birdees Nightclub in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley in front of hundreds of people including a judging panel. I didn’t win the competition, however I was head hunted by my now manger, Joey Lamattina, who sent talent scouts to the competition. Not long after the competition he contacted me and arranged a meeting and since then I haven’t looked back
