Here’s the who, what, where and how.
About This Project:
News on the Hour, designed and curated by Jay Jermyn, is an ongoing sound and visual performance work that responds to the news live streamed through the internet, commenting on the disorientating constant stream of the news cycle.
By redirecting the audio from the news to be driven through a series of digital manipulations and music effects pedals, the visual and audio is disconnected; in turn, dissolving all political agendas on the left and right that alter the true reporting of facts and placing a new authorship on the visual content.
The outcome is a sound performance, streamed live on Instagram, that has elements from musical genres of experimental techno, house and ambient, whilst bringing the audio back to be recognizable at stages for the viewer to associate with. Jay will be working with special guests – tune in nightly from Mon 13 to Fri 17 April.

About the Artist:
Jay is a multi-disciplinary artist, designer and musician based on the Gold Coast. Jay graduated with a Bachelor of Digital Media majoring in 3D Design from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Gold Coast in 2017.
Jay’s practice explores the intersection of the digital and the physical, identity, emotion and notions of self.
His works are frequently layered, collaged and spliced together with the aim of creating multiple focal points, picture planes, and ways of looking and listening. Much of his practice including his sound works engage with digital manipulations and filters to create layered sonic and visual compositions. Sound is an integral part of jay’s practice and he is a key component of the collaborative music project Veople.
