This October, HOTA will host their bi-annual Kids Take Over school holiday program, featuring a range of adventure-filled activities where kids can create, explore and let their imaginations go wild.
Kids will be inspired by this year’s theme of ‘Into the Wild’ and encouraged to don their explorer’s hats and enjoy an exciting mini-fest daily from 10am to 2pm.
All small explorers with a knack for the wild will love the full program of activities, interactive experiences, live performances, arts and craft and more all hosted by HOTA.
Children will have a blast with all the activities planned at this year’s Kids Take Over event says HOTA CEO, Criena Gehrke.
“Parents can raise their expectations this school holidays. We’ve got some of the best theatre companies at Kids Take Over – I’m talking Circa and Shock Therapy amongst others – with some fantastic, imaginative experiences, just for kids,” she says.
“There’s a jam-packed program of art activities and creative experiences for kids and families to get amongst – including great coffee and cinema options running during workshops to keep the adults entertained too.”
Dan Sultan’s debut album for kids ‘Nali & Friends’; written alongside long-time friend, collaborator and filmmaker Rhys Graham, will be hitting the stage on 5 October. Inspired by their journey through Uganda and Kenya, ‘Nali & Friends’ is a tale about unconventional, oddball animals from different parts of the world.
Danger Club By Circa will be inviting kids to get involved with a series of circus workshops throughout the entire week. Children between the ages 8 and 13 will explore and learn a range of circus skills. They will then show off their new abilities to a live audience.
Any younger ones with a taste for thrills and excitement can enjoy Circus Antics Workshops with Spaghetti Circus, where kids can learn all about taking risks and having fun with circus props.
Stop Motion Animation Workshop Toonworld will also be available to any kids with a love for creativity from 1 to 3 October. This workshop will teach kids how to develop a storyline and create a unique clay character that will feature in their very own movie. Playing on the big screen before Dan Sultan’s concert on 5 October will be all the short films, complete with cool voice and sound effects.
Gold Coast company Shock Therapy dives into the power of imagination with colourful and iconic interactive experiences will encourage kids to take a walk through The Magic Garden with bush adventurer and mythical creature researcher, Pat Malone. A journey filled with exploration, creativity and interaction for families.
African Beat emphasises this year’s wild theme with an African drumming workshop that teaches kids to move to the rhythm of the jungle beats.
Upon arrival to HOTA, kids will receive their very own passport to collect all the stickers they earn during their journey through each activity; travelling on to experience their next adventure throughout the school holiday program.
