Kristy Lee is best known for her powerhouse vocals. So much so that she’s caught the attention of some incredible musicians – Michael Franti, Dickey Betts (The Allman Brothers), G. Love and Special Sauce and The Indigo Girls to name but a few.
She’s also caught the attention of Gold Coast’s very own Hussy Hicks. Well, I guess you could say more than that, seeing she’s being welcomed into their Circle of Friends with much fanfare. The ladies have actually been friends for more than ten years.
Responsible for birthing a new genre – dirt road soul – Kristy will join the Hussy Hicks and Charlie Mgee (WA) for the first Circle of Friends in more than three months as we welcome the hussies back from an extended tour of UK and Europe.
Charlie Mgee (pictured above) is the musical mastermind behing Formidable Vegetable Sound System – the world’s most triumphant experiment in ‘ecological electroswing’. Think energetic mashups of speakeasy-style antique beats with ukulele wonk, hyperactive horns and permaculture principles.
When they are in town the Hussy Hicks – Julz Parker and Leesa Gentz – run their Circle of Friends monthly. The informal show, which captures stories, songs and great humour from the artists involved has featured musicians such as Kim Churchill, Bobby Alu, Beccy Cole, Lacy Doley and Marshall Okell to name a few.
Tickets are available at hussyhicks.iwannaticket.com.au and doors open 2.00pm on Sunday 2 November. It’s a family-friendly event and tickets are only $15.00 online.
