Laser beak man saves the world at HOTA

This month HOTA will play host to Laser Beak Man, a unique performance that is part puppet show and part pop concert.

Exploding with colour, Laser Beak Man is saving the world one story at a time with this high-energy puppet show packed with the trademark humour and visual puns from the vivid imagination of acclaimed Australian artist Tim Sharp.

After focussing on drawing as a means of communication when diagnosed with autism at just three years of age, Tim gave birth to the Laser Beak Man concept well before his teens. With help from Dead Puppet Society writers David Morton and Nicholas Paine, Tim’s quirky illustrations came to life as Laser Beak Man in this epic production that follows Laser Beak Man in his quest to stop his nemesis Peter Bartman from destroying the beautiful Power City with stolen Magna Crystals – the same crystals that gave Laser Beak Man his powers.

HOTA CEO, Criena Gehrke believes the performance will be enjoyed by both children and adults alike.

“This award-winning, supercharged show mixes puppetry, quirky humour and crazy colour with cutting-edge digital imagery and a live soundtrack that both kids and their parents will love,” she said. “The show is jam-packed with visual puns from Tim Sharp’s literal interpretation of language and I’m sure it will be a highlight during our January school holiday program.”

In addition to the production, HOTA are also presenting three special events with the Laser Beak Man team – a Writing Music for Theatre Workshop, Introduction to Puppetry Workshop, and an In Conversation event where Judy and Tim Sharp will share their inspiring story of resilience and creativity.

Laser Beak Man will take place from January 16 to 18 in Theatre 1, as headlining act as part of HOTA’s Kids Take Over school holiday program themed ‘Save the World’ from January 14 to 18.
