Bargain hunters will make a difference to people in crisis at the Lifeline Book Sale in the Events Arena at Carrara Markets over two weekends; September 7-8 and 14-15 from 8am to 3pm.
Gold Coast book lovers can buy up big at the upcoming Gold Coast Lifeline Book Sale, and help save lives as part of the bargain, with all funds raised supporting Lifeline’s Crisis Support line.
The event will feature over 100 tables of second hand books ranging from paperbacks, children’s books and ex-library books.
Prices start from 50 cents, and there are recycled bags available for purchase on the day for $2 or you can bring your own bag. Plus a free book bag minding service gives visitors a chance to leave their book stash while they browse the rest of the markets.
The book sale is free to enter and Carrara Markets also features free parking, loads of family entertainment such as Mini Golf, the Butterfly House, Pony Rides, Bungee Trampoline and Baby Animal Farm, additional to the 300 fantastic market stalls and cafés.
Lifeline Queensland Manager Lee-Anne Borham encouraged locals to dig deep, saying their purchases could help save a life.
“Lifeline provides a vital service for Australians who are doing it tough and may not know where to turn,” said Ms Borham.
“When people are at their most vulnerable, they can feel that their lives are spiralling out of control, and begin to have thoughts of suicide. In those moments, they need a non-judgemental and compassionate listening ear.”
Ms Borham said having the courage to call Lifeline in a time of need is an important first step.
“Sometimes when a person is really struggling, it’s hard for them to see a way out of the darkness,” she said.
“When they call Lifeline, we take the time to understand them and where they’re coming from. We are able to provide information about local services that can provide them with ongoing support. We give them hope.
“Last year, Lifeline Queensland answered 170,000 calls from people in need.
“With the help of Queenslanders, we can answer more calls and ensure people are given the support they need.”
Gold Coast Lifeline Book Sale runs over two weekends; September 7-8 and 14-15 2019 from 8am to 3pm at Carrara Markets.
Funds raised from the event will go towards funding the Lifeline Queensland’s 13 11 14 Crisis Support Line.
