“We wanted you to be the first to know that the five of us are planning to do some gigs in Australia and overseas during 2017.”
They’re the words that every Midnight Oil fan has been waiting patiently to hear and they came via a Facebook post on the band’s page this morning.
The news doesn’t come as a complete surprise. When we spoke to Peter Garrett last year he’d said that he’d been enjoying writing new songs. Something that happened for quite some time.
And when we asked about reforming the band and hitting the road?
“All that stuff is anybody’s guess at the moment,” he told Blank GC. “The Oils? It’s just a case of if the stars line up and the spirits are willing then there may be a time and place to get up on stage together. It’d be silly to rule that out.”
“Everyone’s healthy and reasonably well,” Garrett says of his bandmates. “And it’s great that people want to see the band again.”
So this morning Midnight Oil announced on their FB page that they’ll be hitting the road but that it might be a while before they announce the details.
“It will probably be at least the end of this year before we know exactly where or when,” the announcement said.
But while you wait, you can join the band’s mailing list AND grab a free download of Forgotten Years live from Canberra.
Maybe they’ll include the Gold Coast on their tour, for old time’s sake…

Midnight Oil are scheduled to announce tour dates towards the end of 2016.
