More voodoo on the horizon for Yes Sir Noceur

When we spoke to Yes Sir Noceur earlier this year, drummer Rory Switzer declared that “2015 will be the year of Yes Sir Noceur,” and this proclamation seems to have been quite prophetic.

They’ve been regularly selling out Venue of the Year finalist elsewhere and have written and produced a selt-titled EP right here on the Gold Coast. Two of the songs on that EP have been included in the August edition of Surfing Life’s Then and Now DVD and “our single Voodoo has the gnarliest barrels of the movie,” they tell me.

They’ve been interviewed and have performed a live set on Channel 7’s Sunrise and have had radio play on ABC Radio. They’ve also had 90,000 listens on Spotify.

And just this month they also took out the Griffith University Band Competition as part of the National Campus Band Competition and are now off to the state finals (3 September).

“The band has alot in the works coming up, including four shows this weekend,” says Marc Cowie (vocals and guitar) before going on to reinforce the big year they’re having.

“Our drummer and “marketing manager” Rory, just came back from holidays, in time to watch and listen to two of our songs (Voodoo and Heretical Mind) on the latest edition of Surfing Life Magazine’s Then + Now DVD. We’ve got a music video being filmed for The Outlaw next weekend, two singles set to record with Konstantine from Belligerents at Airlock studios early October and working up to the next full album release.”

Woah.

They’re also working really hard on the band as well as in the band, which some might say is evidenced by the traction they’re getting with non-music media.

But it’s music they make, and it’s their music that we love. And we’re rejoicing at so many ways to see Yes Sir Noceur this weekend (see below for gig details).
